The Band
Hazel O’Connor’s band, The Subterraneans, have built a strong, loyal following.
Producing albums of original music they are also well known for backing Toyah Willcox, Carol Decker and many other household names. The guys have played venues big and small up and down the United Kingdom, including Glastonbury Festival, for over 25 years.
Let’s Rock The 70s is their latest venture, aimed at theatres and festivals. It’s the culmination of their passion for what many believe was the greatest music decade of them all – the 1970s. The show benefits from the genius of Roger Lomas, a Grammy Award winning record producer who, as well as producing the sound for their studio and live albums, always mixes the sound at all their gigs. It’s a perfect combination.
During lockdown, the band uploaded videos to YouTube every week of songs from their set performed during 2019. A favourite with fans was their version of ‘Without You’ (check it out on our videos page) which has been covered by many artists over the years.
The widow of one of the song’s writers, Tom Evans, shared it on her FaceBook saying how wonderful it was. Harry Nillson’s version of the song is probably the best known, and she sent the link to his family. The family visited the band’s website thanking them for it and saying how brilliant they thought it was, writing ‘what an awesome version’. It is indeed!
This is such a nice testimony to the band’s performance, and it gives an indication of how faithfully they reproduce the wide range of tracks they present when they Rock the 70s.
